The classic video game series Sensible Soccer, popular in the early 1990s, has received a spiritual successor led by Jon Hare and developed by Tower Studios and Combo Breaker. Football is one of the most widely played sports worldwide, so it’s no surprise that this type of game is so successful, as it allows football fans to enjoy the sport from home. In an industry dominated by Electronic Arts with its FC 24 (formerly FIFA), independent titles like Sociable Soccer 24 are carving out their own place, offering gameplay on par with that of the major North American studio.
Easy to play, hard to master
Sociable Soccer 24 takes the casualization of arcade football game design to another level. Gameplay is limited to three mechanics: running, passing the ball, and shooting at goal. However, this limited gameplay is complemented by a deep layer of progression in which the player can gradually build their team as they win matches. This title offers fast and dynamic games where strategy and spatial awareness are key to achieving victory.
Game modes and FIFPRO license
One of the most significant features of this title is its association with the FIFPRO license, which provides the game with around 13,000 professional football players. Among the different game modes available in Sociable Soccer 24, players can enjoy both local and online multiplayer, where they can challenge and defeat friends and family while playing as various athletes from the 1,400 teams included in this release.
A modern and comical look
With a modernized—though not highly detailed—aesthetic compared to the Sensible Soccer games of the past, Sociable Soccer 24 offers a fun visual presentation with elements that add a comical touch to each match. Referees, who appear throughout the games with caricature-like faces, feature hilarious names that will leave you pleasantly surprised.
